The Jalama Expression Session – near the tiny hamlet of Lompoc, California two hours north of Los Angeles– is run by Randy Phillips and his “Class V Surfdogs” and held every year on the first weekend of December. About 20-25 paddlesurfers showed up including Tao Berman (he is the guy in the Red Bull helmet). The 2009 event made it the 13th Annual and it’s always billed as just a fun event with waves that can get pretty big. They can challenge you as an athlete and paddlesurfer. No judges.
