April 14 Plastic Navy Kayak Fishing Tournament Trail, Mission Bay, CA.- The Plastic Navy Tournament Trail, a 6-event series of catch and release saltwater bass tournament skicks off on April 14 at Mission Bay. This is fun kayak fishing competition ramped up to an all-new level, with serious money, a glittering prize list, sweet goody bags and raffle prizes, and major bragging rights up for grabs. The Trail will stop at Newport Dunes (June 2), La Jolla Shores (July 14), Dana Pt. (Sept. 15), and Newport Harbor (Oct. 27) before the grand finale on San Diego Bay (Dec. 8).. April 15 2010 Yukon River Quest Deadline is April 15, The 2010 Yukon River Quest had 65 teams fully registered as of April 1, and the push is on to fill all 100 available team slots before the April 15 registration deadline. There is still room in the solo classes (up to a 30-team solo limit), as well as all other classes. The complete breakdown of teams as of April 1 was as follows: 5 solo canoes (C1), 18 solo kayaks (K1), 18 tandem canoes (C2), 15 tandem kayaks (K2), and 7 voyageur canoes (VC). Another five teams were in the process of registering this past weekend, and many more are expected over the next 10 days. So far, eight nationalities are represented in the 2010 field: Australia, Austria, Canada, Finland, South Africa, United Kingdom, and the United States of America. Organizers hope to meet or surpass last year’s total of entries. In 2009 registrations surpassed 85, and 73 teams actually started the race. The year before, in 2008, the 100-team registration limit was hit and a record 89 teams started the event. Typically about 10 teams withdraw before the start of the event, but so far none have withdrawn entries for the 2010 race. Registration information and online entry forms are available via a link on the race website: www.yukonriverquest.com. The 12th annual “Race to the Midnight Sun” begins on June 30 in Whitehorse. Except for two mandatory rest stops totaling just 10 hours, teams will race round-the-clock 740 kilometres (460 miles) to the finish line in historic Dawson City, making it the toughest paddling marathon in the world. The event concludes July 4. In other YRQ news: • A Yukon River Quest fundraiser will be held on the evening of April 24 at the Gold Rush Inn in Whitehorse. There will be live music, race videos, and a silent auction. April 14-15 The Sixth Annual Hidalgo Falls River Festival- Navasota,TX, will be held at the TRPA Hidalgo Falls property on the Brazos River near Navasota, TX. The festival, which is the year's major fund-raising event to maintain paddlers' access to the rapid, attracted more than 250 paddlers and spectators last year. Dealer reps and outfitters will have boats and gear available for demos on moving water, and (based on past years) many boaters will come as early as Friday to enjoy the nice play levels on the river and to camp in the upstream and downstream campgrounds.

May 1 2nd Annual Black Creek Canoe/ Kayak Festival, Hartsville, SC.- Darlington County Tourism along with the City of Hartsville and Naturally Outdoors of Florence, SC are proud to sponsor the 2nd Annual Black Creek Kayak/Canoe Festival in Hartsville, South Carolina. The Black Creek Kayak/Canoe Festival will be hosted at Lawton Park of Hartsville on April 30th and May 1st of 2010. This event will be sanctioned by the American Canoe Association; registration will take place on April 30th from 1 pm until 5 pm and the main event will open at 9 am on May 1, 2010 and run until 4 pm. Activities, such as live music, food, and kayak instructions, will take place throughout the day at Lawton Park. During the day a group of no less than eight kayak and/or canoe vendors will be demonstrating their products for interested parties and for those wishing to try their hand at canoeing or kayaking for the first time, Naturally Outdoors of Florence will be providing basic lessons. Activities during the day will include a float and fun race down 3.4 miles of picturesque Black Creek in Hartsville, South Carolina as well as a sprint across the lake. Shuttle services will be provided by the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee and will be available for registered participants throughout the day. Rental boats will be available as well as a swap area for those interested in buying, selling, or trading items. Registration for the creek float or the race is $25 and the sprint across the lake is $10. Kayak Big Air – Friday, May 14 and Saturday, May 15
New to Dominion Riverrock this year is Kayak Big Air. Kayakers will launch themselves down a ramp and perform backflips and spins while trying to land upright in the water. The event consists of both a qualifying round on Friday, followed by finals on Saturday. Competitors will attempt five jumps off the ramp, and each jump will be judged on the difficulty and precision of their tricks, flips and rotations. Judges will take each competitor’s best score out of their five jumps and only the top ten scores will advance to the finals where judges will crown a champion. Qualifying is on May 14 at 6:00pm. The finals are on May 15 at 7:00pm. REGISTRATION DETAILS: Before May 6: $25.00 May 7 – May 14: $35.00. Kayak Boatercross – Saturday, May 15
Separate heats of four kayaks and canoes will line up and race head to head on James River’s turbulent Brown’s Island rapid. The course takes competitors through the river’s main drops with three different buoys that must be circled. The fastest two boats in each heat advance to the next round. Eventually, four competitors will duke it out in the championship round of Boatercross. The first heat starts at 4:00pm on May 15. Registration DETAILS:

May 15 12th Annual Paddler's Poker Run- Ocala, FL.
This event is a 50/50 benefit for the Ocala Outdoor Adventure Camp, a non-profit organization which teaches outdoor skills to children and youth, sponsored by the FWC. Half the proceeds will go to the top poker hands, the other half will go to the Adventure Camp. Extra poker hands are available for a $5 donation each. This race is recognized as the World Surfski Championship of long distance surfski racing and is the title that the most elite watermen and water women covet the most.
