Folding Kayak Phenomenon

This boat comes from Fujita of Japan, which has been making folding kayaks for half a century. Paddlers appreciate its quality and performance, and wonder why it has not been imported before.
Assembly: The 480 is a cinch to assemble, with a very logical design. Major sections come already pre-attached to each other. No force is necessary at any point. You can put it together in 15 minutes when accustomed to the process.
Handling: Arrow-straight tracking is welcome to beginners. It also turns and handles wakes well. The 480 will not weathercock, and following seas are never a problem. Stability is top-notch.
Details: This boat uses wooden crossribs and fiberglass long pieces. The decks are a urethane-coated synthetic; the hulls are a PVC coating on a polyester core. It has small hatches for helping to load lots of gear.
Portability: The carrying bag is well designed and very comfortable to carry because of the padded hip belt and shoulder harness. The 480 is relatively light for its length, which helps here, as it does when carrying the boat assembled.
