Folding Kayak Phenomenon

This model is meant to handle bigger paddlers who can safely use the company's mini-sized single, the Aleut, but who don't want to go to the full-sized Kodiak. Its performance leans toward the traits of the Kodiak, i.e., reasonably fast, stable, and easy to paddle. Folbot recently made a major structural frame change, switching to aluminum for its cross-frame ribs. The result is greater stiffness and efficiency in moving through the water.
Assembly: Like all Folbots, the Yukon assembles quickly; expect less than 15 minutes when you get used to it. You won't find any steps that will hang you up. Everything is straightforward, with all parts easy to identify and connect with other parts. Caution: watch out for several small knobs that attach the washboards (coamings) to the frame; the wise carry a spare or two.
Handling: The Yukon tracks well, as do all Folbots. Turning does take effort, as primary stability is so great that it is hard to lean the boat. But that same stability sees you through rough seas. Speed is impressive for such a short boat.
Details: It has a synthetic deck, Hypalon hull, and all-aluminum frame. The change to aluminum tubing for the crossribs means much wider openings for fitting more gear. Workmanship and durability are good; Folbot is the only company offering a lifetime warranty, which it honors religiously.
Portability: Folbot's carry bags tend to be bulletproof but are also heavy and awkward to carry any distance. However, when assembled, the boat is not hard to carry because of its relatively light weight.
