As the name denotes, the MicroPLB claims the title of smallest and lightest PLB on the market without a GPS chip-a feature that bumps up its price. Weighing in at a mere 8 ounces, the MicroPLB compares in size to a pack of cigarettes and will easily fit into a PFD pocket. This small unit features all the bells and whistles of its bigger brothers (LED power indicators, brightly colored case, optional GPS compatibility), and it has an antenna that automatically deploys when the case is opened. While the MicroPLB passes FCC waterproof regulations, it does not float. For an upgrade, consider the MicroPLB GS, which trades a few ounces and an extra inch of length for an internal GPS chip, or the MicroPLB XL, which has an extended battery life of 48 hours.
