This double-bend design feels very steady in the water and rests comfortably in the hands. It’s slightly heavier than other paddles in this review, a consideration for expeditions. However, the curved palm grip is comfortable, and the ergonomic design is easy on the bod. The blade face provides power and flexibility, and the heft of the paddle adds to its durability.

This is an all-graphite, bent-shaft (12 degrees) design, and very light. Despite the light feel, the paddle is surprisingly stable in the water and produces good power and control characteristics. Both the grip and shaft felt small in my largish hands. The Black Lite is an all-around paddle that serves well, especially when weight is key.
Foxfire II Foxworx

Another hybrid of carbon and wood laminate, the Foxfire II blends lightweight economy and stiffness with the aesthetics and flexibility of wood. The bend is slight and the blade is wide but dramatically tapered, which saves on weight but doesn’t sacrifice power and stability. I liked the feel of the oval shaft but found the grip a tad small for my hands. It’s a nice all-around touring and recreational paddle.
Zephyr Ultralight Sawyer

An extremely lightweight blend of carbon and laminated wood with a modified T-grip makes for solid control of strokes, as well as a durable and aesthetic paddle. There is some minor flutter on moderate power strokes with this slight bent-shaft (11 degrees), but it goes away if you vary the oomph behind the stroke. While the grip offers solid control, the hard angles wore on my palm over the long haul.
