Grateful Heads is located in Frostburg, Maryland, just a quick drive from the Upper Yough, Cheat, and a host of other advanced-level runs. Of all the companies reviewed, Grateful Heads offers the widest array of custom options. Like the Head Trip helmets, Grateful Heads helmets are all composite with a focus on Kevlar. Two lay-up options are available—the Standard and the Extreme. And with 3 marble colors, 16 solids, 16 metal flake, 11 micro dust, and 4 neon colors available, plus custom combinations, Grateful Heads is in a position to provide you with a unique piece of head protection. When this article was being written, Grateful Heads used one shell size and various liners ranging from from 3/8 inch to 5/8 inch thick to accommodate different sizes. The company reports that for 2005 they will be using more shell sizes and that they are also developing a dual-density liner that will provide better impact management.
