Where to stay: For the Mendon Country Inn (a bed-and-breakfast), visit www.rivercountry.com/mci. There are several chains in Three Rivers including a Holiday Inn Express (269-278-7766) and a Hampton Inn (269-651-4210). Also in Three Rivers is the century old Victorian Whispers Bed & Breakfast Inn (269-278-9777; www.WhispersBedandBreakfast.com).
Where to eat: Lorraine Stuart arranges luncheons and dinners in Amish homes. For more information contact her at 269-496-8008. The Amish meals usually require a minimum of 8 to 10 people and availability is limited.
The Bistro Rio (www.rivercountry.comn/bistrorio) in downtown Mendon has decks overlooking the river and a sophisticated menu including items such as crab cakes with chipolte aioli and cumin crusted beef tenderloin on corn cakes with cactus salsa. In Colon, the River Lake Inn (269-432-2626) features fresh seafood, steaks and a buffet; it also has a butterfly garden and nature trails for those wanting to wander before or after dinner.
The Mendon Country Inn is opening a restaurant in the inn-though that isn't scheduled to happen until the end of August.
