25th Anniversary of Paul Caffyn's "Dreamtime Voyage"

The Victorian Sea Kayak Club will honour paddling legend Paul Caffyn in early December when they unveil a plaque celebrating the 25th Anniversary of what John Dowd, author of Sea kayaking described as ‘a pinnacle for sea kayaking’ – the successful circumnavigation of mainland Australia, a continental coastline in excess of 17,000 kilometres.

The town of Queenscliff on Port Phillip was chosen by Paul as the start and finish site for his successful circumnavigation of mainland Australia (1981-1982), this is also the focal point for the celebrations being planned for Saturday 1st December 2007. Local dignitaries, councillors and overseas guests will also attend the event which will be held on the cliff top above the beach where Paul landed in December 1992.

Paul Caffyn and his expedition support pair of Andy Woods and Lesley Hadley will travel from their homes in New Zealand for the ceremony which will literally ‘cast-in-stone’, the sea kayaking achievements of this amazing paddler.

Victorian Sea Kayak Club President, Les Bognar commented that in his view this is the most important project undertaken by his team over its thirty years of history. Les went on to issue a world-wide invitation to all sea kayakers who can attend this event to join his team in Queenscliff, where they will be welcomed by his club. Les also acknowledged the cooperation and partnership of both The Borough of Queenscliffe and the Queenscliffe Maritime Museum in bringing this event to fruition.
