Seattle Rowers Win Atlantic Race

Four Seattle rowers won the Shepherd Ocean Fours Rowing Race this morning, pulling themselves across the Atlantic from New York to the coast of the United Kingdom, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Friday, Aug. 18, 2006.

At around 7:45 a.m. Pacific time, Jordan Hanssen, Dylan LeValley, Greg Spooner and Brad Vickers crossed the finish line in their 29-foot boat in an area near Bishop's Rock, on the southwesternmost tip of the British Isles, to technically complete the race, family members said. The team was sponsored by Kokatat and Sealline, among other paddlesports companies, and made the crossing with Sawyer oars.

The men, all in their 20s, are the first U.S. team to complete the grueling North Atlantic route from North America to the United Kingdom. They also have set the U.S. record for this particular race.
