600 Miles solo Paddle

Kira Salak is a "real-life Lara Croft"

Remi Benali

Innova Kayak is pleased to announce a major honor for Kira Salak from the National Geographic Society. Ms. Salak is the first documented person to kayak solo 600 miles to Timbuktu down Mali's Niger River. She chose to make the journey in an Innova Safari.

Each year the National Geographic Society selects a new class of "Emerging Explorers." These dynamic personalities are already making significant contributions to their fields and show potential for true breakthroughs. Called a "real-life Lara Croft" by the New York Times, Ms. Salak has traveled solo to almost every continent, adventuring in remote reaches of Madagascar, Mozambique, Bangladesh, Papua New Guinea, and Borneo.

Kira Salak is one of six Emerging Explorers chosen for 2005 and is now prominently featured on the National Geographic website, and in the March magazine issue, paddling her Innova Safari.
