Illinois Paddlers Seek Access

Paddlers in Lake County, Illinois, are seeking a lake site where people can launch and paddle their own canoes and kayaks. While the Forest Preserve District has done a great job creating access points on the Des Plaines River, they have only two lakes where canoes and/or kayaks are allowed - and they must be rented at one site, while the other site requires a launch fee for canoes, and does not allow kayaks at all.

Paddlers have sent a letter to the Board of Directors asking that such a site be created; the reception was pretty good, but three board members have indicated that showing support for this effort from the paddlesports community would substantially help the effort along.
