Kayaking for Veterans Day

US veterans from military conflicts including the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq - many of whom are adaptive athletes - will compete for cash , prizes, and bragging rights in Blood, Sweat, Toil and Triumph Run-Boat Biathlon at the Washington Canoe Club, on the Georgetown waterfront, in Washington, D.C., on Nov. 12.

The BST&T Biathlon, which will consist of a four-mile run on the Capital Crescent Trail and a 1-mile paddle on the Potomac River, is being organized by Team River Runner, and Disabled Sports USA, two non-profit organizations that promote health and healing for wounded American service members through recreation programs.

"We view this event as an exciting spotlight on our program of teaching kayaking to injured American service members at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center," notes Mike McCormick, BST&T Event Director and co-founder of Team River Runner. "And we look forward to creating a successful, exciting sports event that will rally the Washington D.C. community to cheer on our veterans and soldiers while seeing firsthand the spirit of honor, integrity, dedication and patriotism that they have brought or bring to their duties as members of the United States Armed Forces.
