Women on the Adirondack Ponds

J.K

The afternoon light was waning and we readied ourselves for the hardest carry of the day. We once more raised our boats to our shoulders and headed up the steep trail over Blagden Hill. We were beginning to fad as our journey was taking its toll and the steady uphill warranted a few breaks. The steep downhill was a welcome break reaching a spot where the trail followed a beautiful bog on our left with the golden grasses shimmering in the dimming sunlight. After an hour’s carry, we were back at familiar Turtle Pond and the end was in sight. A brisk paddle brought us to the carry to Hoel Pond, then up and over the railroad bed and we were back on Hoel Pond. After 8 hours, we had mixed emotions as our tired bodies were happy to see the end, but we hated to see this beautiful day end in our Adirondack wilderness.

The pictures were beautiful as usual and I did enjoy reading about the trip. Even though it looked and sounded wonderful.....I know that it is not for me. I will continue to see that part of the world through the eyes of my favorite sister.
